BELMONT MANSION
Adelicia Acklen was born in 1817 and became one of the wealthiest women of the South during the 19th century and first owner of Belmont Mansion. Learn how she amassed her wealth through several marriages, several plantations, the Civil War, and by having a superb business mind. It is a very intriguing story that unfolds as you tour the mansion and the grounds!

Belmont Mansion, a twenty-thousand square-foot villa, once included a zoo, aviary, water tower, gas refinery, bath house, bowling alley, conservatory, a lake and elaborate gardens.

Belmont Mansion, now, is maintained as a house museum. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The Belmont Mansion Association, a private, not-for- profit historic preservation society, administers the restoration and operation of the mansion, and is funded by rental events, admissions, and fundraising activities.
